Again, Not Posting From Home

It’s funny how I always think I’ll have more time to blog when I’m on the road, and then it ends up that I have less time than usual.  Of course, some of the time away from work is spent catching up on my movie watching, but hey—that’s important too.

I’m at the Indianapolis Airport right now, waiting for my flight to Philly.  No limo ride down this time though, unfortunately.  I took Tha Docta Express this time.  I did get a limo on the way back from Wisconsin again, though.  And this time it wasn’t 5:45 am when I came rolling into the neighborhood, so it was kind of embarrassing to get out of this limo that doesn’t even fit in my driveway with my whole street watching me.  However, good fortune smiled upon my clothes and there were no stains to be seen (much to my wife’s relief).

So why am I heading out to Philly a mere 4 days after returning from a business trip?  A family reunion, of course!  It’s for Jessica’s side of the family (since I’m the only one not living in Delaware, there’s a family reunion for my side every time we visit), so that will be…interesting.  I decline to add further comment.  Back to notes from the Wisconsin trip.

The last week of my training was as productive as the first two, which is to say it was quite productive and exhausting.  It made me wonder how people got through the training after all the heavy drinking going on every night.  Now since I’m Mormon and everything, I make a pretty good designated driver and spectator to the whole “getting drunk” experience.  I learned that if one enjoys the alcohol, one never turns down drinks paid for by a corporate card.  At times it was entertaining, but it did get tiresome after, oh…two nights of everyone getting smashed.  They even dragged me to a bar on the second night (it’s hard to refuse when it’s 12 against one, but that was the last bar I agreed to go to for the week).  If you’ve never been to Wisconsin, but you’ve heard that beer is part of the culture there, let me just confirm that beer is a staple in that particular part of the nation.  I have never seen so many bars in my life.  There were more corner bars than there were corners.  I’m not even kidding.  I don’t know how a city of 40,000 people keeps that many bars going, but none of them were empty.

Note:  There’s a British guy a couple seats down from me that just said “jolly good” in a conversation on his cell phone.  I didn’t know people actually said that in real life.

So another thing about that part of the country:  I could listen to that accent for hours.  I’m not making fun, but it’s just so entertaining.  There was a guy from North Dakota who was there, and he could tell stories forever without anyone stopping him.  I don’t know what it is about that accent, but it’s awesome.  And yes, it sounds exactly like the people in Fargo. (I’m sorry, I had to say it—it really does!)

I haven’t seen Luke and Jessica now since last Saturday, so I’m missing them quite a bit now.  It wasn’t as bad when I was on the road, because I’m used to being alone there, but the house has seemed really empty since I’ve been back.  This is also the longest we’ve been apart since we’ve been married.  Anyway, the flight’s about to board, so I’m gonna wrap this thing up.

Song of the day:  “Woman”, by Wolfmother.  How great is this song?  I will answer:  very great.  If you haven’t heard these guys, they’re definitely worth a listen.  The first thing I thought of when I heard them for the first time was Black Sabbath, what with the fuzzy guitars and the lead singer’s peculiar voice.  But there’s a lot more to them than that comparison.  And the singer is much more intelligible than Ozzy ever was.  The album, by the way, is excellent.  I’ve been listening to it continually.
