I’ve decided I’ll no longer talk about what I’m working on as far as posts, because every time I do, it takes like 2-3 weeks before I post again. Also it’s not like there’s some kind of hook that’s bringing people back here anyway.
So let me just start off by saying that Independence Day is 400 times better in states that allow fireworks. We spent most of the day on the fourth with Zimm and his family, and his brother-and sister-in-law and their daughter. It was pretty much the best Independence Day in recent memory. The men went and played disc golf early in the day (which is more and more fun every time I do it), and later we all went up to a state park and went swimming and ate kabobs. Luke had the time of his life in the water. I know Zimm’s wife got some good pictures of him at the beach, so once I get a hold of those I’ll post some. His main activity in the water is splashing, but he could do it forever. It was a lot of fun up there. After the beach, we came back here and set off fireworks.
Now I grew up in Delaware, where they don’t allow fireworks. Sometimes my dad would get some black cats when he was in…Pennsylvania, I think (is that right, Mom?), and firecrackers are fun and all, but setting off your own artillery shells and bottle rockets is just awesome. I like going to see fireworks shows and everything, but there are some cool things about doing it yourself: you’ve automatically got a good seat, there’s no crowd, when it’s over you just go inside instead of sitting in your car for three hours waiting to get out of a parking lot, or worse yet taking a shuttle to get to your car. I remember a fireworks show from years back when we had to take a shuttle to get back to the car. I don’t remember the show itself, but I remember the shuttle, and I remember my youngest sister thinking that we’d never get home (she was serious—she’s always been dramatic like that). So hopefully our three families will live close enough to do that for some more years. It was kind of impromptu this year, so I think when we have more time to prepare and coordinate the fireworks purchases, we could do some really cool stuff.
Obviously I haven’t posted much lately, and honestly I’ve barely even been online. I had the trip to Wisconsin a few weeks ago, and then went straight to Delaware right after that, and since then I’ve just been trying to get caught up, so to speak. Work has been exhausting, and there’s a lot going on with that that I won’t talk about just yet. We’ve got the county fair coming up this week, and our company has a booth there. We take turns manning the booth, so both Zimm and I will be up there for a day this week. The best development from last year to this year is that they’ll have wi-fi in the area where our booth is. On a side note, you can put me in the group of people who never thought in a million years that there would be wi-fi access at a county fair in central Indiana. But I’m pretty excited about it, because it can be pretty slow there during the daytime hours, so that should give us something to do.
Well, I should probably go mow my lawn now, so it will be a race between my willpower and my sleepiness. Let’s see who wins.
Song of the Day: “Learn to Fly”, by Foo Fighters. I’m currently watching their concert DVD, “Everywhere but Home”, and that’s playing right now. Good song.
